Terms and Conditions for applying for a TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Award 2008

  1. The TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Awards are open to (a) all UK residents aged 18 years or over; and (b) all organisations based, established or registered in the UK who meet the criteria set out in the application form. This excludes employees (and their families) of Citizens Online. The TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Awards are not open to local authorities, local education authorities, health authorities, learning and skills councils, higher education establishments, tertiary colleges, universities, organisations that promote political parties or companies that trade for profit.1.   2. In order to apply for a TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Award you must complete the application form online in full. You may also be required to provide additional information after your application has been received, and to comply with any other reasonable request of the promoter in relation to the TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Awards. The closing date for the receipt of entries is 30 September 2008.
  3. The shortlisted entries will be selected in October 2007 and winners will be notified by October 25th via phone and post. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges who will review the applications and consider the following factors: reasonable evidence that the project will benefit the user group; reasonable evidence that the project can achieve the results described in the application; details of the number of people expected to benefit; whether the project meets an identified need within the community; whether the application meets the criteria of who can apply; whether the application is complete and legible; whether the applicant has clearly demonstrated that the award will be used for a project that will be sustained for a minimum of 12 months from the time the ward is made; whether the project is innovative and will make an exceptional difference to the community. Shortlisted entrants may be visited by a representative from the awards, taking no more than 90 minutes. Winners will be confirmed by 25th October 2008.
  4. Winners of a TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Award must provide the dministrator of the TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Awards with proof of purchase or payment of services within one month of receiving the awards. Failure to provide proof of purchase or payment of services shall entitle the administrator to revoke the award.
  5. Each winner selected by the judges will receive a TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Award of £2,000 to fund technology related projects. Five overall winners will also win technology related equipment to the value of £250, plus a one-to-one workshop with celebrity dotcom entrepreneur and founder of lastminute.com Martha Lane Fox.
  6. The awards ceremony at the House of Lords and one-to-one workshops with Martha Lane Fox, will take place in November 2008.
  7. Only one entry per person/organisation is allowed. Multiple entries by individuals or organisations will be disqualified. Winners and unsuccessful applicants from previous years may reapply.
  8. Lost and delayed entries will not be accepted. No reasonable responsibility is accepted for lost or delayed entries. No responsibility is accepted for undelivered emails.
  9. The promoter reserves the right to substitute items/activities of a greater or equivalent value should unforeseen circumstances require it.
  10. The promoter reserves the right to amend categories or move entries from one category into another should unforeseen circumstances require it.
  11. Winners may be required to participate in publicity arranged by or on behalf of the organisers.
  12. The judges' decision is final and no future correspondence will be entered into in relation to the TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Awards, or the allocation or payment of a TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Award.
  13. Prizes are provided by TalkTalk, 1 Portal Way, London, W3 6RS. The Awards are administered by TalkTalk and Citizens Online, a registered charity (No 1087794) whose address is 1 Town Square, West Swindon Centre, Tewkesbury Way, Swindon SN5 7DL.

TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Awards 2008

Helping UK charities and community groups harness the power of the internet.


TalkTalk's Innovation In The Community Awards enable charity and community groups throughout the UK to harness the power of the Internet. 30 winners will receive cash grants of £2,000 each to fund both technology related projects as well as technology equipment, to help them make the most of the Internet. Applications are invited from 1 July to 30 September 2008. Winners will be notified by 25 October 2008. The awards ceremony at the House of Lords and one-to-one workshops with Martha Lane Fox (for five categrory winners only), will take place in November 2008.

If you are a UK based not-for-profit organisation or community group looking to extend your work through the use of the Internet you could be eligible for one of 30 cash grants available. Five overall winners will also win technology equipment of their choice and a one-to-one workshop with celebrity Dotcom entrepreneur and co-founder of lastminute.com Martha Lane Fox.

In 2007, 30 winning UK charities and community groups used the grants to implement essential technology projects, from chat rooms on health issues to web-based support networks and other digital technologies.
